Chairman Wang Yundan Invited to Attend EU Energy Ministers Meeting and Give Special Speech

On May 18, 2017, the Chairman of Shanghai Electric Power Co., Ltd. (SEP), Wang Yundan was invited to attend the EU Energy Ministers Meeting in Malta and delivered a special speech as an invited guest.

The meeting was held in the Presidential Palace in Valletta, Malta, and chaired by the Minister Mizzi of Malta. Around 150 participants including the Energy Ministers of 28 EU members and the representatives of relevant governmental agencies, enterprises, and academic circle were present. They discussed and analyzed the way for EU members to deliver clean energy and the technical route for improving the energy efficiency in the Mediterranean region and carried out special analysis on the advanced energy technologies, business mode, energy financing and cases in EU, in particular the development and changes of energy structure. The participants highlighted that SEP had made great contribution for reducing the tariff, improving the power grid stability, and promoting the development of national economy.

The Chairman Wang Yundan delivered the keynote speech named “Optimizing Maltese Energy and Realizing European Strategic Objective” on the meeting. He introduced the investments and development projects made by SEP in Malta and other European countries and the achievements obtained at present. He highlighted that the following three factors were necessary for the success of investment in Malta.

1.SEP has always followed the “The Belt and Road” initiative of China government;

2.The strategic position of Malta in EU, the support of both China and Malta governments, and the contributions of SEP employees were indispensable;

3.Healthy partnership, active cultural integration, professional teamwork, harmonic public relationships, and mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation objectives were the activators of success. 

Under the joint efforts of the two sides, Malta has realized overall transformation of the energy structure revolution and fast development of the national economy, contributing to the rise of its national credit rating. Looking forward to the future, SEP will continue to make joint efforts with the Government of Malta to increase the energy efficiency and productivity of Malta by supplying clean and environment-friendly power and exploit further the new energy market of Europe to open up a new era of China-Europe cooperation.

The speech of Mr. Wang won extensive appraisals and active feedback from a good many Energy Ministers present in which the Energy Minister of Ireland Denis Naughten had a discussion with Mr. Wang on the latest energy storage technology. Other Energy Ministers also discussed with Mr. Wang and expressed their interest in the development planning of SEP in Europe.

Chen Yuanyuan, Deputy Director of the International Department of SEP, and Sheng Baojie, CEO of SEP (Malta) Holding Ltd participated in the meeting.
